Maths Worksheets

Anyone for Maths? Most likely there are no takers. Most likely … you’ve lost the attention of your children who are probably heading towards the quickest exit. And to be honest, a lot of grownups will follow suit!

What is it about maths that makes us squirm? We dread dealing with cold facts and figures, problems, trigonometry, algebra, long division or short division. It is overwhelming, a formidable task. And to think that no matter how hard you try, try and try and break your head over conjuring up many, many answers—there is just one right answer. Eeeks! Is this fair you ask?

We learn to dislike this subject at a very early age. There always those in every class. The odd ones out who get the perfect score. And yet maths is really a very intriguing subject and possibly the only subject where you can get a perfect score.

Maths worksheets and lots of practice are very useful in training and establishing maths problem solving skills. Worksheets are a great way to help a child apply the knowledge he has learnt and put it into practice. Maths, in particular, is a subject that needs a great amount of practice. Practise makes perfect we are told, and this is especially true for maths. Maths worksheets give a child plenty of opportunity for practice.

Why maths worksheets? Each time you learn something your knowledge needs to be tested in application to that knowledge. Otherwise your brain will not retain the knowledge and you will never know whether you have actually learnt anything. Maths worksheets provide you this opportunity. It also builds confidence in the child as he successfully completes worksheets. This will help the child to be capable of generating an entire worksheet on his/her own.

Statistics show us that in order for a full learning experience to take place, listening, seeing and writing must take place without which proper execution is not possible. Worksheets help to complete the full learning experience. After seeing and listening the child is asked to then write what he has learnt. This helps in retaining the knowledge he has learnt.

Who benefits? Children of all elementary and high school ages can use worksheets. These are specially designed for each academic level and created in such a way that they appeal to children in their respective age groups. Maths is seen not as a laborious task but a fun learning experiencing. Worksheets help to drill basic mathematic concepts into the child.

Where can I get them? Google on “maths worksheets” and you’ll find a wide variety of choices divided into difference academic levels from trigonometry, algebra, calculus, geometry and just plain addition and subtraction.

Worksheets should be given at the end of each maths lesson so that the teacher can help the student if he has not grasped any part of the lesson. Usually, teachers will hand out worksheets to do for homework as well so that he is able to do it on his own. A child should get into the habit of applying the skills he has learnt or asking for help if he has not fairly understood what was taught.

Working on maths worksheets sharpens the mind of a child and increases his skill so make sure your child does one worksheet a day at least. Open up to him the world of maths. Teach your child that maths is not just figures and problems to struggle with in sheer desperation, but maths is in the world in which we live in. Once this connection is made maths will come alive from the text book to everyday living which will make the subject ever interesting and full of fun.
