Search Engine Marketing for Maths WebsiteI have worked for over 20 years as a mathematics teacher in a local secondary school, I wanted to broaden my horizons (so to speak), I didn’t want to be stuck in a school environment all of the time, I wanted to go out there and travel the world. Unfortunately to enable me to achieve this I needed an income whilst travelling, so my thought was that I could set up as a mentor on a website, this way I could take my lap top with me travelling and I could earn and travel at the same time. I put my house on the rental market and had my bags packed for as soon as my house was rented. In the meantime I set up a website offering my services, I had a friend who was a website designer and helped me along. I started by getting work from students who needed extra help with their homework, then I progressed from there into getting mature students who needed tuition on Algebra. All was good I had rented my house and handed in my notice at work. Unfortunately, I was not earning enough money through the web to keep me on an even keel for long. It did not help matters that my website was only ranked at number ninety, so up until now I had been relying on word of mouth to get me work and local advertising is shops, rather than the web. I knew that in order to make my business work, that I would need to get to the top of the tree in the search, I needed to be at least number 10 but anything up from there would be considered a bonus. I approached a company, whom I found on the web who had vast experience in search engine marketing (www.vision64.com) and online marketing. They were helpful and advised me what I needed to do in order to get my website to rank in the top ten on the search. I took on board there advice and from that day forward I started to move up the rankings on the search engine. I am now at number five, I am receiving 20 hits a day on my site and more often than not I have 5 out of those 20 wanting some sort of help with there maths studies. Search Engine Marketing and optimisation is certainly the way forward, for getting your voice heard on the internet. Without it a good website might never be found. As for my travelling well, I am in Australia now and in three weeks I plan to move one to New Zealand, it is one of the best moves I have ever made, swapping working in a mundane classroom to often doing my work on my lap top on a balcony over looking the beach. If you had the choice which would you rather choose. I know for me that this was a life changing experience and the right choice for me. Life is great! |
